Sky & Steam Miscellany

Sky & Steam Miscellany is a steampunk-esque ttrpg where players take on the roles of working class, peculiarly knowledgeable quasi-Dickensian protagonists trying to gain notoriety uncovering proto-industrial and supernatural plots.

Sky & Steam Miscellany is a compendium of rules, materials, mechanics, in-world resources, and tables. It bears the Mark of the Odd, so is compatible across that broad family of games, including Cairn, Mausritter, Liminal Horror, etc. Each can be easily shared, printed, and imported to your games and table.

Sky & Steam Miscellany is modular. Each section  of mechanics, procedures, tables, play options, in-game source, and adventure is laid out to be printed on a single letter size piece of paper, folded in half, with 'content' on the front, back, and interior spread. 

Each of these 'folios' can be used and printed separately (all PDFs are set up as these single fold sheets).  There are 10 folios in each Volume, including covers to hold the contents. Each Volume is the same size as a 40 page A5 zine (That's 120 pages of faux early 19th century!).

Format & Design

The format refracts that of 19th century broadsheets, with a cover containing multiple folded sheets laid out sequentially, not nested within each other. Information for specific purposes is easy to find and folios not of interest or relevance to a particular campaign, session, or character can be easily tucked away, not printed, or discarded.

As a designer with a significant visual disability working independently there is almost no art, as parsing and manipulating images is not possible. There will be differences in letter tone, nuances of fonts, or other fiddly design bits I am unable to decipher. I worked with a designer to make the bespoke Loch Ness map for the project (Thanks Shout!), other maps are more experimental, articulated in an essay in Vol. 3 No. 00.
